Title: Prahbeat
Artist: Noggin
Album: Buzz Exports
Date: 2004

This one gets mixed up in my mind with another one I have with a similar title and vein. I think what happened was I was working on one in Praha one night, really digging it, then, thanks Buzz, I saved it in such a way that made the file unreadable. This happened often depending on your buzz configuration. Anyway, so I think I quickly tried to recreate what I had lost, but instead did something pretty different.
Here’s your sunday track. This is that lounge-lizard boom bap Buzz style.

Title: I Swear to you my friend it will be alright
Artist: Noggin
Album: As Yet Unknown
Date: 2005

This one comes up today because it has vocals from my own dad, El Medico / Dirty Knife. So happy Father’s day. He will probably dislike this song because he is not a fan of “rap music”. Well, I’m sorry pops, but if you can label anything a bit more adventurous than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as “rap music”, then yea, we’ve got a long way to go.
I wrote this song for a very good friend of mine who was just having a bit of an existential crisis. I can’t remember the details but it’s likely because the details don’t matter, it was the overall feeling I was concerned with at the time, and I hope that my feeble attempt to lend a hand through resonances is remembered for nothing more than the crux feeling it was expressing. For as terrible as the internet can be, the ability to collaborate musically with each other, he in San Marcos, me in Praha, was really a blessing.
Here’s to new fathers.

More Buzz pattern looping madness. This was the closing track for the GaGeAsSeBr EP, if you don’t count the secret track. This one involved a lot of experimental techniques (experimental to me, at the time). Lots of compression, lots of synthesis, formant filtering, slap bass, vocoder, you name it.

Happy birthday to one of my true homeys, Thoams. This is a track he and I recorded, on a whim, one winter day in the basement of Beretta. He laid down the guitar line, I cut it up / pitched it / looped it, and this came out of it all. I felt like this was a good solid accomplishment, so much that I started to move away from the Trip Hop I had been obsessed with for a period of time.
This is a Jasmine guitar and Buzz.
ps. Apologies for the technical glitches…the site went blank screen on me for a couple hours and I just imagine it did the same to everyone.

I remember really liking this one when I made it. That’s about all I remember. Think it was a really quick one.
Some of that beats and breaks oriented bass stuff. Oh yea it’s definitely buzz. Beat isolated at the end for sampling WOOPS.

Title: Blind Billie Jean
Artist: Michael Jackson + Lusine ICL + Noggin
Album: As Yet Unknown
Release Date: 2004

Bootleg / mashup time. I’ve been a huge Lusine fan for a while, and his records and cds randomly pop up from time to time in various record stores around the world. This was my favorite track off the album, and the whole concept of the bootleg mix was still pretty rampant (this was right after the Grey album, which is in all seriousness way more than a ‘mashup’). Not having too many a cappella’s to work with, I just jammed some MJ…can’t go wrong.
Pretty sure I made this strictly in Cool Edit Pro, which means a lot of changing speed of portions, editing where it goes out of sync. Lot of cut and paste.
Enjoy.

Short one. I got groceries getting warm I gotta tend to.
This is mostly Buzz, but judging from the title, I imagine I used some VST instruments / fx. Really guessing at the date, this one was a very quick throw together.

Album: Where is our spaceship, and how did we get on this planet?
Release Date: 2001

Produced for the most part in Buzz, but I might have got the piano line out of cakewalk.
I’m personally proudest of the beats in this one. People seem to like it.
Lots of vocal samples so if that kind of thing freaks you out you might enjoy this. The melody should hopefully keep you grounded.
