Date: 1998

An early foray into breakbeat acid via a classic sample you’ve heard in such places as Chemical Brothers B-sides.
It’s all Buzz here with the classic Jeskola Bass2 -> Jeskola NiNja Delay combo in full, s/h effect.
Dedicating this one to the first people I met from New Jersey, some cool girls participating in the national video competition in Kansas City (we got 5th). Never forget that lost correspondence – “hey noggin, nice meeting you. i want to hear what texas techno sounds like”.
Named after a sweet trickshot from virtual pool.

File this buzz beat under “why the hell did I name it this?”. It’s not the beat that would eventually become the backbeat for my Gin and Juice reshuffle, though I imagine it’s not too far off to assume it grew from that, then totally transformed along the way. I can tell yall that the beat sounds like it’s a sample from, or shares some samples with, the beat from the Noggin remix of Ilya’s “Formation”.
Also pretty sure this one is heavy on the vsts.
Buzz, duh.

Unfinished track that has some nice guitar in it, not to mention my favorite Buzz machine, the Geonik’s PrimiFun.

This one comes up today cause I think my homeys Joel and Paul would approve of it (bust out the samplers?). It’s a short abortion, but it came pretty close to being turned into a Fade track (Robsi loved it and worked on vocals for like an afternoon).
It’s all Buzz and live record scratching…I was really tipping over the edge about to dive into turntablism when I produced this.

I’m dedicating this week to collaborations.
One of the most good-vibesin’ bit of collaborating I did was with Matt aka SOMA. I can’t recall the details on how we became aware of each other, but it probably had something to do with rotorkopf and definitely had a lot to do with Buzz. He asked me to collaborate on a track, and as I was just learning the intricacies of amen junglism, I used this as a good excuse to get some more chopping under my belt. His melodies were so inspiring, and the sound fx track was something pretty new to me. I also really dug the tempo changes, even though I don’t think I had ever (knowingly) gone into that territory.
This is about as classic Buzz as it gets…some pluck string, primi fun squelching away, tick-style tracker madness and chiptune pad samples.
We would go on to do a couple more songs together, amongst remixing each others’ work whenever the need arose.

The companion track to ‘softex’ (which isn’t up yet). I made this one as a beat to have running while I synced the synth to it, sort of as an exercise in tweakdom. I don’t think a merged copy of the two got recorded, cause I ended up liking both on their own, actually.
Now to find the companion tracks…
Straight up buzz techno.

Glitch! No, really. Samples of mp3s glitching out, trying to seek, garbling / warbling the sound, reading in non-audio files as audio, turning those into drums. It’s all here.
Buzz.

More San Marcos summer tracks, I believe. Well, it’s like I’d make em throughout the year, then finally burn em to cds and bump em, or feel good enough to share when river time rolled around. This one is Buzz again, definitely the drums, but the melodies might actually be some tweakbench or other free vsts. Includes early scratching via yours truly as well.

One of my favorite tracks to have under my belt, here’s track 2 off the divergent ai ep. Keepin it simple with that mda epiano (love this one) rubbing the heels of some distraught and noisy 808. works well with headphones (all this buzz stuff does…imagine that).

Starting to wrap up the ‘Phase’ album, here is probably my favorite track from those sessions. Inspired by classic Faithless, this is sort an epic euro-house ballad. Vintage tracker samples render the melodies a little dirty.
