We were really good in Nueget / Megaspore Mothercell about getting an idea and then taking it to completion. We didn’t really have a song per se when we started here, but we sure did at the end of it. It’s definitely got that Sonic Youth garage vibe we were heading towards. This is just Steve and I while we were in-between bassists (which was quite often).
Props Steve.
And as a bonus, here’s the overdub version of White Rainbow complete with guitar shreds.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the Phase album (my first CD – not first album) is complete. This is the first track which I intended to pretty much set the stage for how I felt about the state of music at the time. In highschool, kids were so caught up in ‘techno’ being ‘video game music’ and ‘fake’ and blah blah ignorant ignorant drivel. I wanted this track to make all those @$$holes feel like they were totally right.
The song title is a direct homage to an absolute CLASSIC Buzz track by Low Occurence, titled ‘How to kill the cliche’.

Throwback tuesday.
One of the first jams to emerge from the S20 back in the day. Main synth line is totally ripped from an Orangator preset ‘Jarresound’. Anybody else use Orangator? HELL of a synth from a time when soft synths were all hell.

This was the ‘secret track’ off of Phase, my first cd. Mellow and kind of leaves you with no closure, like a good secret track should do.

Yo Matt, some of these are more CLASSIC than TRASH, so please don’t take it the wrong the way ;].
Here’s another collaboration we did following in the square-wave melodic stylings of Mr. SOMA’s own work. I think I did the 808s on this one, and the vocals (found deep in the bowls of the internet). Of course I could be totally wrong about that, and honestly I think this was mostly homedude’s track, so all props to him.
Super happy tracker mellow style courtesy your jeskola buzz.

Early buzz funkery. Fell in love with slap bass on this one.
It’s a remix of a much mellower tune that I’ll be posting up later this week. It’s like, it was so mellow, I had to do this funky version just to keep the yin in the yang, the pb with the jelly, the froyd with the seigfried, you know…

Been a big week for classic buzz here.
Here’s an early dark track with a simple drum line. Probably would work good as a soundtrack piece. I cobbled this together in the closet on a computer in the time right before we headed to Corpus for a competition.

An early foray into breakbeat acid via a classic sample you’ve heard in such places as Chemical Brothers B-sides.
It’s all Buzz here with the classic Jeskola Bass2 -> Jeskola NiNja Delay combo in full, s/h effect.
Dedicating this one to the first people I met from New Jersey, some cool girls participating in the national video competition in Kansas City (we got 5th). Never forget that lost correspondence – “hey noggin, nice meeting you. i want to hear what texas techno sounds like”.
Named after a sweet trickshot from virtual pool.

I’m dedicating this week to collaborations.
One of the most good-vibesin’ bit of collaborating I did was with Matt aka SOMA. I can’t recall the details on how we became aware of each other, but it probably had something to do with rotorkopf and definitely had a lot to do with Buzz. He asked me to collaborate on a track, and as I was just learning the intricacies of amen junglism, I used this as a good excuse to get some more chopping under my belt. His melodies were so inspiring, and the sound fx track was something pretty new to me. I also really dug the tempo changes, even though I don’t think I had ever (knowingly) gone into that territory.
This is about as classic Buzz as it gets…some pluck string, primi fun squelching away, tick-style tracker madness and chiptune pad samples.
We would go on to do a couple more songs together, amongst remixing each others’ work whenever the need arose.

Starting to wrap up the ‘Phase’ album, here is probably my favorite track from those sessions. Inspired by classic Faithless, this is sort an epic euro-house ballad. Vintage tracker samples render the melodies a little dirty.
