This is my last solo Groovesday for a while. We keep it all over the place just trying to push every button I can before I step out that door down that old dusty. The AC is broken in the station so this is literally the sweatiest show I’ve ever done as well – wonder if that comes through to yall?
Gets rolling on the jungle tip then cruises into familiar four to floor and finally all-bets-off territory. Even hit that requested Euro flavor.
This weeks show includes hits from, but not limited to:
Adnan Marquez-Borbon
Sun Ra
Dawn Penn / Bounty Hunter
Sak Noel
Caustic Window
etc, etc…

Groovesday 24 April 2012
Title: Groovesday 24 April 2012
Artist: DJ Noggin
Album: KEOS Broadcasts
Date: 2012
part a
The first ~half of the show, I played a recording from a recent live show I jumped in on at Revolution in Bryan, TX. The recording came out good, and it’s a succinct snapshot of where I’m at right now, especially in terms of MPC production. Anyway, more on that later when I post it up.
So I only recorded the second half of the show when I got back to normal DJing…this evening with all CDs (what a concept!).
Kept it more on the mellow and the glitchy tip, if yer into that sort of thing.
This weeks show includes hits from, but not limited to:
Richard Devine
Jimmac
AFX
Meat Beat Manifesto
Mr. Oizo
etc, etc…

Noggin – bassitch
Title: bassitch
Artist: Noggin
Album: Wreckage
Date: 2003
From the ‘wreckage’ ep, which is just a few buzz bouncedowns from a couple volatile tracks that actually managed to open during some reinstall of buzz.
Its glitchy and its cute.

Noggin – lychee
Title: lychee
Artist: Noggin
Album: Buzz Exports
Date: 2003
Glitchtacular melodiousism rampant right here.
It’s hi-fi buzzage, with a definite downtempo tip. The beat out of this one went on to bigger and better things…and it’s just on the tip of my tongue right now what those things were.
originally called ‘gichee.bmx’.

Noggin – Žižkov Nights
Title: Žižkov Nights
Artist: Noggin
Album: Buzz Exports
Date: 2004
Firmly rooted in the glitch aesthetic when this grew out. The product of cold nights in Eastern Europe and not wanting to take the tram to any social part of town.
Let me take this opportunity to remind myself that the bed I had in that room was the hugest thing I’ve ever seen – you couldn’t find sheets to fit it (our landlord was a furniture maker so all the furniture was totally custom). He was kind enough to leave a sweet boombox though with aux input so I was able to have a more decent monitoring situation and still pump out the hits.
Lots of melody and buffer stalling.

Pictures of Clouds – Untitled 05
Title: Untitled 05
Artist: Pictures of Clouds
Album: Pictures of Clouds
Date: 2010
Finally getting a bit more ambient with what was intended to be an ambient project. This second song from the Pictures of Clouds sessions sort of rolled out immediately after the first couple jams. The tapedeck went like, pause,(pause),un-pause, and we got back into it. Once again rockin with the sequencers off. MPC and Ion + a young master + a young anacortian + myself.

Noggin – beat mangler
Title: beat mangler
Artist: Noggin
Album: Buzz Exports
Date: 2004
You might recognise this one as it served as stomping ground for and went on to become the music for a video I had to make for class.
This adds a little melody to the already destructed beats.

Noggin – snipt
Title: snipt
Artist: Noggin
Album: Buzz Exports
Date: 2002
Another one of these consciously trying to be hi-fi tracks right here from the glitch haydays.
All buzz as usual. Serious sine drops. Dynamics. Tone Loc!

Noggin – Grglbst
Title: Grglbst
Artist: Noggin
Album: As Yet Unknown
Date: 2004
Aaaah, a true Noggin gem of a classic right here.
Urban legend says that this works great on an music-device on shuffle, as the mix might be fortunate enough to get these ~14 seconds of speaker-terror in the midst of oh say a soothing new age indie set. In the words of my good friend Freddy, “Just wait….it’ll be over soon”.
This was created by running effects in Cool Edit with ungodly values in the parameters…if the chorus lets you type in 120000000000000 voices, just do it. If you can catch the output and record it before your computer totally crashes to its knees, you’ll have a nice little nugget of glitchdom to feed yer hungry little samplers with.
It’s my birthday homeys so I’m gonna take this moment to point out a couple of my personal favorites from the archives…
Noggin – Emergence
Noggin – Disassembly
Noggin – Cup Feet / Chamber
CNCTR – Corrosion

Noggin – KEOS 29 July 2011
