Definition of Love-Hate here.
This track was originally a favorite of mine, though I figured it might not appeal to a wide range. However the first few listeners loved it.
It went through many permutations and edits.
I eventually started to despise it because it’s so nasty to begin with, its not easy to tame.
It almost got scrapped, but held on as being the first reviewers’ favorite – how could I let it get relegated to b-side-land?
It’s an ER-1 feeding back on itself and pressed really hard to tape in the garage with Jon.
ER-1 straight to 1/4″ reels.
Chuck originally called this one “Dirty”.

Fast paced jungle + some drum n bass originally intended to be set to an acapella of Eminem. That’s one of my favorite tracks off that album. This one is entirely buzz tracker junglism.
Borderline drill-n-bass but not enough rolls, I suppose.

You might recognise this one as it served as stomping ground for and went on to become the music for a video I had to make for class.
This adds a little melody to the already destructed beats.

Yea that’s an ESQ-1 tone. Not really effected either, minus of course the insanely compressed reverb.
Originally did this to give to a friend, who never did it anything with it, so it gets named after her. ;] One of my favorites.

Aaaah, a true Noggin gem of a classic right here.
Urban legend says that this works great on an music-device on shuffle, as the mix might be fortunate enough to get these ~14 seconds of speaker-terror in the midst of oh say a soothing new age indie set. In the words of my good friend Freddy, “Just wait….it’ll be over soon”.
This was created by running effects in Cool Edit with ungodly values in the parameters…if the chorus lets you type in 120000000000000 voices, just do it. If you can catch the output and record it before your computer totally crashes to its knees, you’ll have a nice little nugget of glitchdom to feed yer hungry little samplers with.
It’s my birthday homeys so I’m gonna take this moment to point out a couple of my personal favorites from the archives…

Believe it or not I think I’ve gotten more compliments on this one than any other single project.
I also can’t even begin to tell you where it came from. Just kind of opened my eyes one day and here is this almost finished track. That’s not entirely true, but what I do know is that I worked on this one intensely in marathon sessions…I’m talking realising you need to turn the lights on/off and yer not sure where the world is type of marathons. I definitely put a lot of extra work in to this one, pulling stuff off of synths, re-pitching, looping, lots of cutting, lots of tracker mod commands. It all blends bombastically into this, the opening track of the Divergent AI EP.
Buzz and AN1X for sure.

The companion track to ‘softex’ (which isn’t up yet). I made this one as a beat to have running while I synced the synth to it, sort of as an exercise in tweakdom. I don’t think a merged copy of the two got recorded, cause I ended up liking both on their own, actually.
Now to find the companion tracks…
Straight up buzz techno.

I was really into industrial before anything else concrete. It gave me the balls to actually get into more electronic stuff, and it was about all I could make on my own when I was first starting out. Indie/lo-fi/Daniel Johnston was only cool to Kurt Cobain when I was doing this stuff, and so the only lo-fi thing I could really get away with was just a ton of distorted keyboards. Either that or I was 14 and really didn’t care what anybody thought and I wanted to make my face bleed with my headphones. Anyway, I moved away from the more industrial, into the more techno, and back and forth for a while. This was the the industrial part of what I thought was a pretty defining suite off my first computer based album. A nod to my dirtier days.

Made this one when I was about 16 just so I could have some jams to play live. I created it by making some loops in Buzz, recording some guitar into Cool Edit, and then exporting all those loops to my Akai S-20 sampler for live manipulation. Provided for a pretty dynamic performance since there was no set sequence, and I was experimenting with more one-shots vs loops. I really enjoyed playing this one because I could wail out on the guitar solo…picking up the sampler and changing the playback direction+stuttering of the loop in realtime. I don’t do that in the recorded version….had to give em something to hold out for for the live show. This was recorded live from the sampler, but not live in front of people. The crowd in this recording is totally fake.
Includes hidden track ‘sN_8’ from the end of the album, ‘Phase’.

Made this drum n’ bass remix of Lil’ Jon for a Halloween Party I was DJing in college. For anyone that thinks you need such-and-such to do such-and-such…I DJed this entire party with a crappy mixer and two discmans. Make what you got work! Party was killer too, and I’ll be damned if dropping this track all over their sweaty faces didn’t drive the crowd absolutely apeshit. Flows very nice from the original…flows very nice into Bombs Over Baghdad…just sayin’ (will maybe post that mix later).
The name comes from my friend, who upon hearing it, declared ‘Noggin, yer a mad man’. I liked that.
This was produced using, I believe, Nuendo as sequencer. I only used it for this and maybe one or two other tracks before I just went back to Buzz.
