Artist: Noggin
Album: As Yet Unknown
Date: 2002

Every now and then, this inner cornball in me stands up and shouts loudly messages of love and sentimentality and corndogs and cheese.
This is one of those moments.
Kind of a killer beat, some glitchiness, tons of melody, glide synths, beat box samples (like from yer mouth, yo), all wrapped up in computer nerdom that is the tracker-tune.
This one’s all Buzz.

More midweek chill (thanks Keith).
My friends at SWT and I used to drive around the hill country a lot. Many evenings and setting suns spent sailing the serpentine spine of the Devil’s Backbone.
This might be an un-naturally skewed chill representation of that time of life, but it was definitely developed in the darkness following one of said drives.
This is all Buzz and also includes guitar (I did get really into that I had forgotten).

It’s not too early in the week to party, right?
This one grew out of proposition to ‘dj’, indirectly, again, a Halloween party happening in Waco. I prepared the mix beforehand, then Jared and I headed to Waco to meet my sister at Georges, head to a party near campus, get kicked off the doorsteps of the girls dorm, then finally head down to Houston I believe for an a capella band concert?! Hell of a time.
This one is very college-coed friendly with the hits and some 80s and some Hip Hop and some Noggin remixes / edits to spice it up.
This track includes hits from, but not limited to:
Genesis
Eminem
New Order
Miss Kittin and the Hacker
INXS

This one was all about the drums and breaking out of any sort of genre that might have tried to encapsulate me in 2002. Its heavy on the melody and heavy on the bit of bounce. Its weird and its funky and damn I like it more now than I even did then, I think. Also managed to pull every tracker technique out the book on this one.
dig it.
Shout out to Arguru.

Fast paced jungle + some drum n bass originally intended to be set to an acapella of Eminem. That’s one of my favorite tracks off that album. This one is entirely buzz tracker junglism.
Borderline drill-n-bass but not enough rolls, I suppose.

Another one of these consciously trying to be hi-fi tracks right here from the glitch haydays.
All buzz as usual. Serious sine drops. Dynamics. Tone Loc!

Dipping back into the Buzz Exports – mainly today because I’m using the same computer these came from, and it’s driving me c r a z y.
This one pretty much sticks to the rhythms and minimal chord sequences to get you going in yer idm vein.
ps. in case you missed it, i went ahead and posted last weeks radio show in the correct spot.

My hope is that you put this on a cd somewhere in the middle where you’ve got about a minute and a half to fill. With the stars aligned, and yer mind correct, it should sound as if these Bulgarian choirs sing a solemn song solely for you.
This one seems appropriate today.

All props to Ilya on this one.
This track has a bit of a weird journey…started out as one of Ilya’s first Buzz tracks, got a bit of Noggin treatment, back and forth between us (and this all in 97-98), then somehow it ended up in my sequencer view one night and got totally re-edited / remixed / rejiggled. Much mellower and a bit more focused than our first collaboration on the subject, and still trippy enough to keep me interested.
Dig Geonik’s Omega goin off.

File this buzz beat under “why the hell did I name it this?”. It’s not the beat that would eventually become the backbeat for my Gin and Juice reshuffle, though I imagine it’s not too far off to assume it grew from that, then totally transformed along the way. I can tell yall that the beat sounds like it’s a sample from, or shares some samples with, the beat from the Noggin remix of Ilya’s “Formation”.
Also pretty sure this one is heavy on the vsts.
Buzz, duh.
