Another classic from the whirlwind-Pictures-of-Clouds-ambient-album-post-Whidbey-Island-recording-sessions-with-Elena. Seriously, from ‘let’s make an album’ to ‘damn near complete’ album just a few hours later, this was a magical time in the Red House studio. I attribute much of this to the 3rd member, whose only instrument during the session was good vibes. Plus The Young Master absolutely killing it on the keyboards on this one. Major impromptu props.
MPC+Ion to cassette tape.

Yall are gonna get more of this one. This is what I call the ‘Invitation’ to the larger piece, which currently sits at around 20 minutes long.
I wrote these songs on Orcas Island during a visit there. The house we stayed in had a pretty generic, busted ass Casio keyboard, and, having brought my sampler, I figured this would be a good opportunity to use what I got, and make some beats/sounds using nothing but the broken keyboard I had in hand. I call it broken because I could only manage to get one sound out of it. Well, a few run ins with the sampler program editor, and this one sound turned into my entire palette for the bulk of this music.
More details as these songs find their way this way.
This is MPC fed through LXP1.

This one came out of the Sunnybrook garage during the Sober October sessions. I had just picked up a Lexicon LXP-1 reverb for almost nothing in Galveston, and this was the first bit of signal I sent through it (I’m noticing a trend in my work lately where I try to/accidentally commit to tape ‘firsts’). Is somewhat of a remix of a nylon-guitar based tune you will hear from later.
Thanks Chuck for the much better title.

Hot off the press! Check the timestamp!
I mean, I am bouncing the track down right now. This thing needs serious editing, there are parts where I have to just stop for a second and gather my thoughts to figure out where the hell everything is…this track is, in it’s entire life span from vinyl->mixdown, maybe 3 hours old.
This is some jam I wanted to do tonight to get that Saturday vibe going, and get some more work in with the EPS. Some vinyl sampling from the Classic Funky Music records, some 909, some 3630, and a dash of incroyable…here’s my french jam in respects to the ‘french comedian’ that guy from good burger does on SNL…he is a lot funnier now ZUT ALORS!!!!

This is just a bs jam I did with a recently acquired Yamaha TX-81Z synthesizer running into my reel to reel. This is the first tape I ever made on that machine, I believe. Finally pulled the sounds off and sequenced this little diddy last summer…it was recorded in Nov of 09 I believe.
Fun fact:
The Sega Genesis sound chip was a 6 part multi-timbral, 4 operator FM synth from Yamaha (+sample channel).
The TX-81Z is an 8 part multi-timbral, 4 operator FM synth from Yamaha.
Is it any wonder everything you do on the TX sounds like Golden Axe or Altered Beast?

In with 15 minutes to spare!
I wanted to let yall in on a bit of the process. This is hot and fresh off the press…first run through, just jamming some samples I ripped the other night. Busted out the 3630 for this one, and plan on using that thing a lot more. I haven’t edited this at all just to bare it a little bit for yall.
MPC + vinyl + a dash of NES.
o ps. the samples are from a portugal ‘fados’ record, some coltrane and some herb alpert (in honor of the rebirth of the wall). but you would never know that if i didn’t tell you so good luck spotting them.

Mellow house track written / recorded / mixed in the middle of the night for a school project. Not mastered in any sense so you will have to turn it up. It gives you better bass that way.
Entirely MPC2000XL.

Recording doesn’t always go as planned. I sat down one night, recorded hours worth of stuff, only to listen to it the next day and realise I had somehow only managed to record the reverb sends to tape.
This is one of those tracks…I still kind of like them.
MPC2KXL hitting the akai reel-to-reel via some Lexicon LXP-1.

Release Date: 2010

I recorded this song entirely on the premise of writing some music for my homey DJ CockBlock on his birthday. I then sat on this for a month as I thought ‘oooh I’ll make a video too’. Birthday came and went, this continued to sleep, and I finally put it out there on Xmas.
All drum samples are from the poor man’s 808, the TR-606….a really great sounding drum box. Also includes some samples off of my first ever guitar (thanks Chuck) that I recently attached a piezo pickup to. It’s finnicky, but it’s where I come from and I am loving it.
The title isn’t meant to be a political statement or anything…it was inspired from homeboy’s own now-defunct blog. I thought the tag line sounded great, and then I just used it to inspire regurgitation of buzz-words from the last year or so. Hell, let’s make THAT my political statement…regurgitation and buzz words.
This track produced entirely in an MPC 2000XL, and recorded to 4-track reel. It’s funny to think about that, because the MPC is basically the one instrument that will pull me away from Buzz, and Buzz is the one instrument that will pull me away from the MPC. Still, they are basically completely incompatible as I use them…while Buzz might now have midi, it was not always the case, so I would resort to bouncing down sounds and then importing into MPC…this is not fun and I rarely do it.
There is a part 2, do you want it? It might appear in full length form on my forthcoming album.
