The Red House Studio was like an orphanage, we left so many tracks to fend for themselves in the wild.
This is a demo I worked out solely on the ESQ-1 to a) prove that I could do it and b) get that 80’s teen movie vibe. Mix that with ultra-smooth r&b vibe and now yer getting into stirring territory.
Pizza Party vocalist – let’s get some vox, alright?!

Unofficial Pictures of Clouds release…recorded to cassette one morning in the RedHouse studio in Anacortes with only half the band (that’d be me). I do believe it’s pretty much straight off the MS2000. I love the boing effect of the notes gliding from hi to low. I’m back in Anacortes for a couple of days so loading yall up with the Anacortes sessions seems appropriate.
This one is dedicated to those who departed in 2010.

Believe it or not, this is the version of “Baby Alone” I played with Karl. He wanted a more dance / upbeat vibe to his shows so this seemed to fit that bill / rhythm very nicely. This one doesn’t actually contain any source material from the 96 tapes, while the others are built on sampled hits and phrases pretty heavily. This one was basically a Noggin track that got commissioned for duty with Karl.

While it’s fresh, why don’t we go ahead and make this an ATBKTD week?
Here’s remix #3 which is definitely the furthest diversion from the original track. This is two guys on one MPC 1000 in a garage…that makes like 20 possible fingers on the pads + leaves room for someone to be constantly modifying the sequencer functions while recording.
This one was all laid down live, I don’t think any sequence actually got saved for this one.

More hybrid Sunnybrook garage/Redhouse attic jam. This one completes this suite of mixes.
Ran with the melody a bit more in this one, and this one comes out as one of the most focused efforts from these samples / sequences.

From the depths of the Sunnybrook garage…..more remix/reshuffling of tracks originally conceived in Anacortes in 2009.
These tracks all share such weird parts, and stray so differently from them, that I find it damn near impossible to split them up in my head. So this one gets called the restrained version cause it kind of dances around you while you’re tied to a chair.

This a track I produced using nothing but a recently (and very diy) rigged-up-with-a-pickup parlor guitar (thanks Chuck). This is actually the first guitar I ever had, and I have since come to like it’s particular sound, so I decided to put to use a piezo I had lying around. Thanks Tom for helping out in the shed as we rigged this thing up. There might be some grounding issues and I might have to sometimes run a bare wire from the sleeve of the plug to the metal part of the guitar, but it works.
Anyway, here’s one to think on on this reflective day.

Live version of the first track I ever wrote for Nintendo via midiNES. I have to give huge major props to Kyle in Anacortes for recording this show. This is literally the first time I had ever played the Nintendo outside of my basement, only about a day or two after finally modifying the NES for 1/4″ output. The mixer at open mic at Johnny Picasso’s (great times!) luckily had some reverb built in so we get a bit of the cave effect.
Second half is an homage to Smile Transylvania / Super Metroid / Jeremy / Bill / Freddy because those guys turned me on to that riff, and I always love watching them play their version and their subsequent songs inspired by said riff.

Here’s some house jam I recorded to cassette tape one night in Anacortes with the MS-2000 hooked up. That is pretty neat little synth. The one I got for dirt cheap from the pawn shop has been mounted into what looks like was once a amp head. So it’s a self contained unit with a carrying handle now, instead of a rackless-rack synth. Fits the amp head perfectly, props to the person who did the modification.

More EPS noodlings from the Red House studio. This one features a break from a Violent Femmes record I picked up for like 25 cents from the Red Door. Jealousy ensued over that record but whatever it’s ok, and it def had this one great break on it. Dig how the sample interpolation just destroys the sound.
