This is another one of the few jams I was able to bust out with Reason. Buzz had 0 midi implementation, so one thing that kept me interested in Reason was that I could trigger things from my keyboard. I love how you could just click ‘learn’ and then assign keys to whatever you wanted, track mutes, solos, volume, anything non-standard was no problem.
This is a demo I made to try out this new multi-mapped keyboard live playing ability. I never played out with Reason, cause I just really don’t trust computers in sweaty drinky bars.
Here I am having fun with Dr Rex and the sampler. This track has that definite ‘Reason sound’, which I can’t put my finger on, but I can notice. Maybe it’s the ‘summing’, which is something I’ve heard talked about a lot lately. “It’s the summing dude”…(for the uninitiated, ‘the summing’ is adding…like as in 0.5 + 0.1….or more accurately, 0.52384927349 + -0.12393859304).

Got to get this one up as it just happens to be next in my list of ‘candidates’.
Funky breaks acid jam. The original is a ten-minute acid epic…this one was me using the power of Acid, which, at the time, was pretty unbelievable. Can you believe we used to MANUALLY loop and resample and tweak and stretch and pitch and tune our loops to be sample accurate, integer value multiples of each other!? WE DID! And often times, without a graphic display. Acid came along and changed all that. Finally, a digital audio workstation that was BPM-centric. You could somewhat haphazardly throw a ton of loops into it, and it would stretch all of them to fit into the same tempo. I mean this was revolutionary. Hardware samplers were just starting to do this, but their time-stretch algorithms were so slow and poor, that most all of them (Akai S-20, MPC, I’m looking at you) just resampled the loops (much like a dj changing turntable speeds).
This new technology gave me the power to loop up anything and everything and then just ‘paint’ songs together (I love that paradigm in Acid). This was a loop based composition then, and intended to be used as a live version of ‘Generations’. I did end up playing this one live quite a lot, required 2 or 3 floppies (so slow to load…haters), and the ‘score’ i printed out was like 6 pages of soundwaves taped together.
You can tell I’m still wet behind the ears cause I can’t get enough of those movie samples.

Hot off the press! Check the timestamp!
I mean, I am bouncing the track down right now. This thing needs serious editing, there are parts where I have to just stop for a second and gather my thoughts to figure out where the hell everything is…this track is, in it’s entire life span from vinyl->mixdown, maybe 3 hours old.
This is some jam I wanted to do tonight to get that Saturday vibe going, and get some more work in with the EPS. Some vinyl sampling from the Classic Funky Music records, some 909, some 3630, and a dash of incroyable…here’s my french jam in respects to the ‘french comedian’ that guy from good burger does on SNL…he is a lot funnier now ZUT ALORS!!!!

Saturday track. Get your party on.
Before I say anything else about this track, let me say THANK YOU!!! to all of you who are following or at least checking this project. The response has been overwhelming, positive, and very surprising! This project is for yall and I’m just happy to know I’m making people get all touchy feely with themselves (ok maybe I just hope that).
This track is in honor of a great inside joke we had today while sorting 1000’s of dusty old moldy ass records up at the radio station. We came in with high-hopes of categorisation, but then realised pretty quickly to throw those out the window as Eric Clapton got sorted into the very fledgling Blues category.
Here’s an Eric Clapton remix done in Buzz. This one was for the sorority girls. Ok and the frat boys. But don’t even hate, yall all will jam it.

So a few days ago I put up this really old song called ‘Pheldt’. Standard trip-hop fair.
Then the kids got a hold of it!
My homey Sunny took this track, wailed over it, sampled/chopped the hell out of it, and basically turned it into a completely new track.
I was BLOWN AWAY with how awesome his work is. He credited the track to me, but I have to credit this to him because I am just the samplee, collecting all the royalties like George Clinton.

I really liked that Kanye West track “slow jam” when it came out. So I found the original sample he used (Luther Vandross), and just messed around with it in a more french disco style. Yea, it’s dirty. All Buzz.

In with 15 minutes to spare!
I wanted to let yall in on a bit of the process. This is hot and fresh off the press…first run through, just jamming some samples I ripped the other night. Busted out the 3630 for this one, and plan on using that thing a lot more. I haven’t edited this at all just to bare it a little bit for yall.
MPC + vinyl + a dash of NES.
o ps. the samples are from a portugal ‘fados’ record, some coltrane and some herb alpert (in honor of the rebirth of the wall). but you would never know that if i didn’t tell you so good luck spotting them.

Saturday track.
This track was made to be disco. Just testing out sampling and flipping said samples into french-house-disco orgydom. I showed a brief demo of this to an Italian on soulseek, and they singlehandedly inspired me to finish it… “It’s like the music I always dream of!”.
Written in 2000 in my dormroom, and reworked later to appear on Tiki Island mix.
Thanks, Tez.
Dedicated to KEOS then and now.
