More Brit-pop-avec-idm with Robsi. This one was pretty much done entirely in Reason, and I think we did most of it in one day.
Main thing about this is the vocoder…its like voices vocoded with delayed versions of themselves, guitar, drums, synths, the vocoder patches in this were like a cat’s cradle of patch cables (my favorite part about reason).
ps. and dig that we were doing the halftime drums before the brits were even doing it…well it was an accent back then whereas its like the norm nowadays.

It’s not too early in the week to party, right?
This one grew out of proposition to ‘dj’, indirectly, again, a Halloween party happening in Waco. I prepared the mix beforehand, then Jared and I headed to Waco to meet my sister at Georges, head to a party near campus, get kicked off the doorsteps of the girls dorm, then finally head down to Houston I believe for an a capella band concert?! Hell of a time.
This one is very college-coed friendly with the hits and some 80s and some Hip Hop and some Noggin remixes / edits to spice it up.
This track includes hits from, but not limited to:
Genesis
Eminem
New Order
Miss Kittin and the Hacker
INXS

Coming from the same week probably, and exact same circumstances (idea->realisation, reason, moving on back to buzz right after) as yesterdays track, here’s some dream house for yall. You probably won’t wreck yer car jammin to this unless you’re checking this post on yer phone.

If you really think about it, the previous post, ‘sN_8’ technically got posted included as part of the bonus track for the last track off Phase. So how about another double-post day?
Here’s an example of a point a to point b type of piece. Wherever it came from, I sat down with this one and a very clear picture of where it was, and stone by stone laid a path that walked right up to it.
Knock Knock.
Who’s there?
Buzz.
Buzz who?
Buzz off I’m learning Reason.
My intentions were to do this one with only the highest quality orchestra samples but I pretty much moved on back to Buzz immediately following this, and in the spirit of truth, I’d really hope to have a real orchestra do it.

Comes from the honeymoon right when I got Reason for the first time and had an actual, classic synthesizer to work with. However, that honeymoon didn’t last…sure the hardware emulation was novel for a while, but the clunkiness of the patching vs how easy it was to go totally crazy with Buzz, it didn’t take too long for me to get completely over reason. Great software, just not for me.
This was also when Rik had started getting me interested in psy-trance, and I really started to love the hyper-electronic cutting sounds prevalent in the genre.
Out comes this little gem of some sample-and-hold synth filter tweakage.

Remix of my boy Ilya’s sound-design experiment “Doppler Beats”, which maybe I can encourage him to explain in detail in the comments?
He sent me this pretty awesome recording of some sounds, and I thought, these should be turned into a jam. I was also experimenting a lot with the ‘hardware’ sampler in Reason, so I used it as an excuse to get down and dirty like I hadna before. As such, buzz is pretty absent from this recording.

Whilst working on a film project in college, our group needed some basic bed music, not too loud, not too quiet, to use underneath a PSA we were creating for the food bank. A short time with the midi-keyboard and reason and our problems were solved. I’ll never forget how ‘easy’ I felt it was using a real keyboard (I’m a programmer/pad banger, never really record with a piano-style keyboard).

Saturday track fool. Whatchuknow about running them vocals through recycle?! Mainly reason, with huge chunks of Buzz thrown in for entire sections.

Thoams and I did some SERIOUS chilling in the summer of 2003. One day he picked up my guitar run thru an amp sim, and we threw this track together before dinner.
This is pretty much entirely reason, and probably one of the last pieces I produced with it. The remix which later appeared is completely buzz. We were buying a lot of lottery tickets at the time.

This was a pretty fair-share Buzz / Reason hybrid. Most sounds generated in Reason then sequenced within the Buzz tracker environment. A lot of granular synthesis going on at the lower levels here. Hope you enjoy your glitchy sunday track.
