Artist: Noggin / Lil’ Jon and the East Side Boyz
Album: The Forty Forty Mix (Beretta Underground 01)
Release Date: 2001

Made this drum n’ bass remix of Lil’ Jon for a Halloween Party I was DJing in college. For anyone that thinks you need such-and-such to do such-and-such…I DJed this entire party with a crappy mixer and two discmans. Make what you got work! Party was killer too, and I’ll be damned if dropping this track all over their sweaty faces didn’t drive the crowd absolutely apeshit. Flows very nice from the original…flows very nice into Bombs Over Baghdad…just sayin’ (will maybe post that mix later).
The name comes from my friend, who upon hearing it, declared ‘Noggin, yer a mad man’. I liked that.
This was produced using, I believe, Nuendo as sequencer. I only used it for this and maybe one or two other tracks before I just went back to Buzz.

Produced mainly using Buzz, but includes synth pad and solo sounds from the Roland SH-32. Also record scratches courtesy Dirtstyle Deluxe Shampoo Edition break record.
I made this track when I first moved to Austin. I had a pretty huge, pretty empty apartment to myself. I’m talking EMPTY – turntables, salvaged mattress + pillows (these were my alternative to a couch), and some kitchen-ware. This song came out of a low-lit evening there, surrounded by the embedded smell of curry.

Artist: Noggin
Album: n/a
Release Date: 2010

Fast forward to present day. This is a track I whipped up out of boredom/inspiration one afternoon last spring. This differs from my normal take on production in that it is pretty much entirely Logic instruments doing the sound generation – with the exception of the terminal ‘say’ command reading from a Chuck script I wrote for a friend who needed a looping sampler.
Dedicated to and inspired by my good amigo Mr. Marquez-Borbon. How about laying down some real tape-sax for me hombre?! Includes hand-shuffled rhythms.

And now for something completely different.
Once I got the hang of Buzz, THIS is the track I had been hearing in my head for years and wanted to get out. It’s a bad 303-emulation run through some pretty digital distortion and then a lot of fun with a new-found power – filter automation.

The rumor is that the one techno-friendly club around town got hold of this (thanks Brian) and it went over pretty well on a loud soundsystem. I was not nearly old enough to verify this by actually going to any club, but it’s a nice thought.

Here’s some bubblegum techno-pop from 1997.
This was the first track I ever finished and released using what would be become my main sound production tool, Jeskola Buzz. Seems appropriate to use a ‘first’ for this, the first post of this daunting endeavor. A little hesitant because it’s so different from most of my other stuff, but twice this week people have brought this track up and said they liked it, so just giving the people what they want.

This track was also my first international release, as it was released on a New Zealand comp ‘Self Unbound’ shortly after I shared it.

It’s crazy when I think about making this track, because I was just so new to producing using a computer, and these new concepts of ‘patterns’ and ‘loops’ completely blew my mind. I think this track actually grew entirely out of my amazement with another friend who had made a little beat that was based on a two-pattern (8 beats) loop…thanks for the inspiration Cliff.
Also, this track ignited my love affair with my favorite synth of all time, Geonik’s PrimiFun.
