update: player fixed.
Chalk the name of this one up to a finnicky synth-keyboard interface and kind of letting it name itself as I stumble through the characters.
This one is actually entirely out-the-box, in that it 100% comes from a Yamaha AN1X being played live. You gotta love the sequencer on that thing. Add to that the complete bi-timbrallity and you can get pretty creative with multiple sounds at once and getting close to a full composition from the synth itself.
I know I recorded this one around 3am in my house off Dartmouth in San Marcos.
Rebirthed in 2008 to help with the demo at AES of Spratt’s TreeVerb algorithm.

Believe it or not I think I’ve gotten more compliments on this one than any other single project.
I also can’t even begin to tell you where it came from. Just kind of opened my eyes one day and here is this almost finished track. That’s not entirely true, but what I do know is that I worked on this one intensely in marathon sessions…I’m talking realising you need to turn the lights on/off and yer not sure where the world is type of marathons. I definitely put a lot of extra work in to this one, pulling stuff off of synths, re-pitching, looping, lots of cutting, lots of tracker mod commands. It all blends bombastically into this, the opening track of the Divergent AI EP.
Buzz and AN1X for sure.

Another track from the well received Noggin set at the 2nd Stafford Skullf*cker extravaganza. I had just written this song a short while before this, debuted it at the Department of Safety on 30 October, then redid it with a bit of sync lead for the Stafford show.
Notice the crunchiness – this entire set was mixed and processed through a Yamaha DMP-7. It’s one of the first digital mixers, and it’s got a really unique sound as it takes analog input, converts it all to digital, does all processing digitally inside the machine, then does another DA conversion on output to provide regular old analog outs.
This song to me is the sound of all the house music that wants to exist on a rainy Washington island finding refuge in one, strangely slanted room.

Major props to all those who came out to Birds and the Beats vol. 3 episode 1.
And double props to those who came out to Murphys the following night.
Here’s a live version of a track I recorded at the Stafford Main Street for a semi-regular Holiday show in 2009. Thanks to Houston for making sure it sounded good, and for recording this performance.
Jon Alderson on the drums, which we recorded in Denton, TX, and which have somehow interjected into my life every day since (this fool can drum, let me say).
Look for the studio version of this track coming soon on the Sober October record.
And let me take this opportunity to give my love and support to the Stafford in Bryan, TX. Best sound from Houston to Austin (no BS), and a killer vibe…I hope to come back someday.
