Title: Palladium
Artist: FM Man
Album: One Man To Freq Them All
Date: 2002

My homey Scott released a superb album once upon a moon ago under his FM Man alias. “One man to freq them all” (I’m proud of coming up with that title) was a pretty great sort of electro / techno / idm opus + glimpse into the early 2000’s Montreal electronic music scence that I’m about to go dig up and jam. I’m pretty sure he produced it mostly in Buzz…my remix definitely came 100% from Buzz, inspired by that sick melody line he worked out. I was getting my feet wet with the glitch aesthetic, and this is something that I was really proud of when it was done.
Yet another fruitful collaboration between Noggin and the unbounded creativity that is ScottyP.

Title: Formation (Noggin’s Logic mix)
Artist: Ilya (Dred)
Album: Formation Single
Date: 2001

This is a remix I did for my friend Ilya’s track off one of his concept albums. Was this July? I have since found this track called different things on different works. There are 4 mixes of this song out there…this one is my contribution.
Massive breakbeat workout in buzz. The beats I believe I actually made in some other program, then imported as loops into buzz for further sample manipulation. Further evidence that breaking the workflow even one bit can yield much more interesting results. Sum is greater than the parts, knowwhatimean?

Title: Lottery (What it is now mix)
Artist: Noggin ft. Thoams
Album: As Yet Unknown
Date: 2003

With this track I want to show yall how far a remix can really go sometimes. This is a remix of the track “Lottery” done with my boy Thoams on guitar (original).
This one pretty much took some samples from the recording stems, and granulated the hell out of them in Buzz, using a couple (maybe just 1?) instances of VKR Granular (another one of my favorite synths of all time).
Thank you Thoams, this is one of my proudest productions.

Somewhat more fine-tuned remix of this track.
Pretty sure this is the product of being back at home from San Marcos with not a lot to do.
Willie on the vox. Buzz on the beats.

Not really sure if you’d call this a remix or an original…the original idea was definitely to remix/remake/cover some random ass track from Mark’s friends in England. All we had was a 7″ record with 4 tracks on it to go from. Max and I got commissioned to do this track. I originally laid down all the basics, melody, beats, etc, hoping that he would just be able to drone/jam out over it if I left it open enough (a pretty winning formula for us, really). Well Max kind of went MIA for a time and so this pretty much stayed in the studio. Until the one time we were supposed to actually perform it, at which point we proceeded to annihilate (read, literally blow the tweeters out of) the speaker system with the absolute first noise we made…we were into feedback and high frequency stuff at the time. I’ve never heard of a blown tweeter before, but kids, it can be done with enough feedback and amplifiers.
The point it, this track never really manifested itself as a Plug ‘remix’ or ‘cover’, and instead gestated in the sampler up until my autumn excursions into garage-tapedom. It has since spawned 2 other mildly related tracks, mainly sharing elements of the drums.

Title: Unintended (Nog’s Wavecutter mix)
Artist: Muse / Noggin
Album: Live from Tiki Island
Date: 2003

Remix of a (at-the-time) newly discovered Muse song. I learned about Muse in Noordwijk, and really got into them. They must have been pretty big in Europe at the time, because with nobody having heard of them over here, I was kind of slammed in the face with them over there. One night, I met a nice Irish couple, and the guy kept playing this guitar riff. He told me it was Muse.
Later on that summer, I was making a mix with a few people in mind, and this served as a nice sweet moment on an otherwise jamming cd. Drums are from DJ Shadow’s second album.
More details on the mix when I post the whole thing.

Phase remixes remixes and covers

Noggin – sn_9

Title: sn_9
Artist: Noggin
Album: Phase (remix project), Classic Trash
Date: 1999

This was a remix of the hidden track ‘sn_8’ off my first electronic album Phase. Mainly mixed in a lot hotter, a little less subtle, and with big industrial drums.
I need to thank everyone that contributed a remix for the Phase remix project, even if it never saw the light of day. Guess that means those tracks need to find their way onto this site too, then.

Artist: Noggin
Album: The Shoebox
Release Date: 2000

REEEEEEEEEEEQQQQUUUUUEEEEEEESSSSSSSSTTTTT.
This is a remix of Kaleem that I did solely to use live bongo drumming in a track. Slightly buzz altered of course. God, what a pain using large audio in files in Buzz used to be!
This one forgoes the huge brass and synths for a more intricate kalimba line + actual live instrumentation.

Saturday track. Get your party on.
Before I say anything else about this track, let me say THANK YOU!!! to all of you who are following or at least checking this project. The response has been overwhelming, positive, and very surprising! This project is for yall and I’m just happy to know I’m making people get all touchy feely with themselves (ok maybe I just hope that).
This track is in honor of a great inside joke we had today while sorting 1000’s of dusty old moldy ass records up at the radio station. We came in with high-hopes of categorisation, but then realised pretty quickly to throw those out the window as Eric Clapton got sorted into the very fledgling Blues category.
Here’s an Eric Clapton remix done in Buzz. This one was for the sorority girls. Ok and the frat boys. But don’t even hate, yall all will jam it.
