The ‘Unified’ single stems from a deep desire to emulate a trippy video I saw late night on music tv that I would never see again. I think the original was more Goa than this, but as I’ve got more house in my heart, here it stands as it is now.
Ya know what? Damn, I’m listening to this now for the first time in years, and I’m jammin.
I was experimenting with long, evolving tweaks which puts this one in a nether-realm of acid territory.
Enjoy your saturday track, party kids.
Vocal samples from the film “Colossus: The Forbin Project” (great flick up that Planet of the Apes alley, which by the way the new one is great).

An early foray into breakbeat acid via a classic sample you’ve heard in such places as Chemical Brothers B-sides.
It’s all Buzz here with the classic Jeskola Bass2 -> Jeskola NiNja Delay combo in full, s/h effect.
Dedicating this one to the first people I met from New Jersey, some cool girls participating in the national video competition in Kansas City (we got 5th). Never forget that lost correspondence – “hey noggin, nice meeting you. i want to hear what texas techno sounds like”.
Named after a sweet trickshot from virtual pool.

Another track from the well received Noggin set at the 2nd Stafford Skullf*cker extravaganza. I had just written this song a short while before this, debuted it at the Department of Safety on 30 October, then redid it with a bit of sync lead for the Stafford show.
Notice the crunchiness – this entire set was mixed and processed through a Yamaha DMP-7. It’s one of the first digital mixers, and it’s got a really unique sound as it takes analog input, converts it all to digital, does all processing digitally inside the machine, then does another DA conversion on output to provide regular old analog outs.
This song to me is the sound of all the house music that wants to exist on a rainy Washington island finding refuge in one, strangely slanted room.

This has got to be one of my favorite pieces to have ever produced.
It’s all based around a sample from a Bulgarian choir, + other samples pulled from various sources of music. I really had to step out of my comfort zone to make the drums this punchy…I was more chasing this smeared drum sound back then.
This is once again all buzz.

Gotta give these short-but-not-forgotten tracks some love.
This one is pretty glitchy noise rhythms – wholly unrelated to japan.
It’s all Buzz again, going for that hi-fi sound for yer lo-fi earbuds.

Bust out the samplers…
This is another one of those songs that really just manifested itself, whether we liked it or not. Kyle and I were spending some time in the studio, probably when we should have been studying for finals (though it could have been post-graduation), messing with the cassette deck and protools. Otis Redding really became our friend that day.

Believe it or not, this is the version of “Baby Alone” I played with Karl. He wanted a more dance / upbeat vibe to his shows so this seemed to fit that bill / rhythm very nicely. This one doesn’t actually contain any source material from the 96 tapes, while the others are built on sampled hits and phrases pretty heavily. This one was basically a Noggin track that got commissioned for duty with Karl.

Aaaah….nice sunday track here. This is one of my first forays into straight up loop sampling. God bless the akai s-20. I had to fill some nasty old tape on a reel I was trying to finish off, so I busted out my old trusty and tried to immortalise these tracks which would otherwise would be stuck in the late 90’s Bryan Texas garage rock scene.
A lot of samples from this time period (high school) I’ve noticed come from the tv. The lead vocal in this is definitely from some celebrity game show like 20,000 pyramid or something. Others from random infomercials. Strings from a bargain bin classical cd I got at circuit city to think my 15 year old ass was cultured or something.
Who is going to spot the oasis sample?

This one’s a request that I picked up on telepathically.
When I made this, it was set to be my most ambitious project to date. I had some vox from the movie “Heat”, which I put through the butterknife more finely in cool edit than I had ever done. We don’t need no stinkin auto-glitch plugins. Cut it up by hand and it really starts getting interesting.
Tracked some electric guitar straight into the soundcard (this barely worked), and a lot of detail went into the drum programming.
Then I lost the file.
So I remade my most ambitious project in a night or two, and I think out of spite, never really looked at it again.
Here is the memorial to that song.

You could consider this an early experiment into just how far you could take a tracker / sampler. Somehow I got it into my head that I could record an entire track using nothing but the sounds of a ice tea bottle cap that I had. Got some sounds into cool edit, trimmed up and into Buzz, and this materialised pretty smoothly after that. Some of the samples are slapping the bottlecap, popping the lid in and out, dropping it, sliding it, and of course the bass drum which is not a bottlecap at all.
I chose this one to come next because it actually sounds good immediately following the last one.
